Joan Fogel

I offer long-term and brief work to individuals and groups in NW London and London Bridge, and conduct experiential and reflective practice groups in various organisations.

I have many years’ experience in the mental health field: in therapeutic communities, with adolescents, young people in care, people with learning disabilities, and with those who work in these fields.

The earlier part of my professional career was as a teacher, trainer, advocate and counsellor, working with adults and young people. My experience in education and the social service sectors, along with a continuing interest in psychology, has given me a broad understanding of developmental and learning difficulties.

My outlook is primarily psychodynamic which recognises unconscious as well as conscious processes and behaviours. I am qualified as a group-analytic psychotherapist which means that I keep in mind all aspects of a client’s life. I am influenced by experience in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) where the emphasis is on patterns of relating. I am familiar with and employ aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which tends to concentrate on habits of thinking.

I offer supervision and have a particular interest in supporting teachers, healthcare and social workers, individually and in groups.

I am a member of and abide by the codes of ethics and good practice of the following organisations:
